Dominica 1, the first national digital news portal of the Commonwealth of Dominica, has officially launched, offering comprehensive English-language coverage for Dominicans at home and across the diaspora. The portal aims to report on the full spectrum of island life, from government proceedings in Roseau to parish news from Portsmouth to Grand Bay and the Kalinago Territory.

The publication's editorial charter commits it to plain writing, verification before publication, and treating official warnings as a public-service duty. It will cover weather, hurricane preparedness, and official alerts from the Office of Disaster Management (ODM) and the Dominica Meteorological Service, ensuring residents receive timely and accurate information during emergencies.

Beyond breaking news, Dominica 1 will report on the economy, including agriculture, fisheries, geothermal energy, and tourism, as well as the cruise season. It will also highlight Creole culture, Carnival, Independence celebrations, and the World Creole Music Festival, reflecting the island's rich heritage. Environmental coverage will focus on the Nature Isle's unique ecosystems, while regional news will examine Dominica's role in the OECS, CARICOM, and the wider Caribbean.

The portal's launch fills a gap in national digital media, providing a dedicated source for Dominicans to stay informed about local and regional developments. With a sober, factual, and service-minded tone, Dominica 1 aims to serve as a trusted newsroom for a small island community, carefully and fairly naming individuals in its reporting.
