Study Debunks 1841 Space Weather Train Delay, Identifies 1847 Telegraph Disruption as Earliest Known Impact

A new study in Space Weather finds that a reported 1841 train delay in Exeter, England, could not have been caused by a geomagnetic storm because the railway line did not open until 1846. The international research team instead traces the earliest known space weather impact on technology to telegraph disruptions on the Midland Railway in March 1847.
