Xpeng has revealed the G9L, a full-size electric SUV that becomes the Chinese manufacturer's new flagship model. At 5.12 metres long, 2.00 metres wide and with a 3.10-metre wheelbase, the G9L is larger than a Kia EV9 and considerably heavier. It will be offered in Europe as a six- or seven-seater, while the British market will additionally receive a five-seat version.
All European versions use a 110 kWh NCM battery. The rear-wheel-drive Long Range model delivers a WLTP range of up to 591 kilometres, while the more powerful all-wheel-drive Performance variant manages 553 kilometres. Xpeng has prioritised charging speed: the G9L supports a maximum DC charging rate of 540 kW, which the manufacturer says can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in just 11.7 minutes. A 22 kW AC onboard charger and 6 kW Vehicle-to-Load functionality are fitted as standard.
Two powertrains are available depending on trim. The Long Range rear-wheel-drive version produces 270 kW (367 hp) and 465 Nm of torque, reaching 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds. The flagship AWD Performance model delivers 430 kW (585 hp) and 695 Nm, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds. Underneath, the G9L is equipped as standard with dual-chamber air suspension, adaptive DCC dampers and rear-wheel steering. Several driving modes are included, covering wet conditions, snow and a dedicated Escape Mode for AWD variants.
The exterior features standard matrix LED headlights with adaptive high beam, dynamic indicators and active grille shutters that reduce aerodynamic drag. The SUV rides on 21-inch alloy wheels and is available in Arctic White, Diamond Black, Mirror Gray and the launch colour Waving Green. An electrically deployable tow bar allows a maximum braked towing capacity of 2,000 kilograms. DLP pixel headlights are available as part of an optional Premium Pack.
Inside, Xpeng has emphasised luxury and digital technology. The driver faces an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, while a 17.3-inch central infotainment screen and a 21.4-inch display for rear passengers handle the main functions. An 88-inch augmented reality head-up display is also standard. The audio system comprises 23 speakers, including units built into the driver's seat, supported by active road-noise cancellation. A cooled 50-watt wireless charging pad for two smartphones, a refrigerator in the centre console and three-zone automatic climate control are fitted as standard. The first and second rows are upholstered in nappa leather.
The second row is arranged as a luxury lounge. Seats come as standard with electric backrest adjustment, a four-way adjustable lumbar support and footrest, heating, ventilation and a ten-point massage function. The third row is also electrically adjustable and heated, though it can only be reached by climbing between the second-row seats. Boot space stands at 367 litres with all seats in use. Folding the third row increases capacity to 1,330 litres in the six-seat version and 935 litres in the seven-seater. A 65-litre front trunk is also provided.
On the software side, the G9L runs Xpeng's latest XOS platform. The car supports over-the-air updates, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and features the «Hey Xpeng» voice assistant with multi-zone voice control. Hardware includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and an Xpeng Turing AI processor for the infotainment system, while advanced driver assistance systems use two additional Turing AI processors. Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane centring, intelligent speed assistance, automatic lane changing, a 360-degree camera, various automatic parking functions, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alerts and a driver monitoring system. The Ultra trim adds Full-Scenario VLA, which Xpeng describes as a subscription-free system for supervised automated driving.
Xpeng has not yet announced prices or an exact European launch date. With its dimensions, luxury equipment, large battery and very high charging speed, the G9L is positioned firmly as the brand's new flagship model.
