Apple is expected to unveil a revamped MacBook Pro with a touchscreen display at a launch event in Los Angeles, according to reporting from The Verge. If confirmed, it would be the first touchscreen on a Mac, excluding the Touch Bar, a feature that has been limited in its reach since it was introduced.

The MacBook Pro has looked largely unchanged for several years, and it has never had a proper touchscreen. Apple executives have for a long time criticised touchscreen laptops, a stance that has become a point of interest ahead of the event, given that the company has offered a touchscreen on its iPad for years.

The event follows a busy week for Apple's hardware line. On Monday the company announced a new iPad Mini with an upgraded OLED display, and on Tuesday it introduced M6 chip upgrades for the MacBook Pro and iMac. Those Mac updates were iterative refreshes that closely resembled their predecessors. Today's event, by contrast, is expected to bring a more significant change to the notebook.

Bloomberg has reported that Apple may price the touchscreen version of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro at around $2,899, though the figure is an estimate rather than an official price. Apple has also published a newsroom announcement of a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip, which sets out the hardware that the company has confirmed.

The reporting so far is based on expectations and pre-event information. Whether Apple will ultimately launch a touchscreen MacBook Pro, and at what price, will become clear from the company's own presentation in Los Angeles.
