Ancient Wall Unearthed Beneath Central Paris May Be From Lutetia's Earliest Defenses

A 65-foot section of ancient wall found beneath the Hôtel-Dieu hospital on the Île de la Cité may be part of the ramparts of Lutetia, the Gallic settlement of the Parisii tribe. Carbon dating of charred material suggests the wall burned between 200 and 10 B.C., a period that overlaps with Julius Caesar's account of the Gauls burning their town before the Battle of Lutetia in 52 B.C.
