Avatar Seven Havens showrunners preview Pavi journey after season finale

The Seven Havens season one finale set Pavi on a classic Avatar journey while Nisha stays in Ellora, and showrunners revealed how the series will continue.

Pavi has stepped into the role of the Avatar in Avatar: Seven Havens, and she is now headed to the Floating Isles, while her sister Nisha remains behind in the Haven of Ellora. Showrunners Michael Dante DiMartino, Sehaj Sethi and Ethan Spaulding addressed the biggest questions raised by the season one finale, "The Root Chakra," which aired on Paramount+.

The finale saw Pavi, played by Saheli Khan, unlock her Root Chakra and begin a traditional Avatar journey alongside airbender Jae, voiced by Major Curda. Nisha, voiced by Aishu Devan, was not part of that unlocking. The season also revealed that Nisha was at least partly responsible for the Fear Anomaly that has been attacking Ellora throughout the season. The anomaly was activated when her parents abandoned her, and as a side effect she accidentally killed them in a rockslide.

Sethi said the sisters' separation was part of the plan from the start. "From the very beginning, we all wanted this to be a really organic story about two sisters," she said. "Yes, there's a lot of world-building. But at the end of the day, they are two young girls who fight and have differing opinions." She added that after a full season of watching them grow together, it was interesting to consider how they would develop apart in their respective roles. Spaulding noted that having the characters split up also allows the series to show other locations.

The next stop for Pavi is the Floating Isles, the second Haven of the series. DiMartino described it as a more relaxed place than Ellora and said the production aims to give each Haven its own mini-culture with distinct customs. The showrunners did not share further details about the location, which the storyline suggests may hold the next Chakra Pavi needs to unlock.

The creators also clarified how the series will be structured. Although season one took place entirely in Ellora, DiMartino said that each season will not be limited to a single Haven, and that the team will move through all Seven Havens by the end of the series. He confirmed that the show will run for four seasons in total. "That's the full story," he said. Sethi added that the creative team, which includes co-creator Bryan Konietzko, always had an end point in mind to build the story toward.

The interview also touched on the death of actor Eric Bauza, who died earlier in the week at age 46. Bauza voiced multiple characters in Seven Havens this season, and his contributions extended to Avatar: The Last Airbender, where he played a guard or two at the Boiling Rock early in his voice-acting career. Spaulding said, "He's all over Seven Havens, and his contribution to animation in general is so prevalent. He's going to leave a big hole." Sethi described him as a brilliant performer who could voice nearly anyone, and DiMartino said he had heard many stories from colleagues about Bauza's kindness and impact.
