BMW X5 Gains M Performance Parts Across Range

BMW is offering factory-approved M Performance Parts on the new X5 from launch, bringing carbon-fibre styling and 23-inch wheels to regular and electric versions alike.

BMW is giving its new X5 a sharper edge with a range of M Performance Parts available from launch, allowing buyers to add carbon-fibre styling and aerodynamic upgrades without moving up to a full M model. The factory-approved accessories are designed to fit the fifth-generation luxury SUV and are not restricted to the most powerful variant.

Official press images have focused on the plug-in hybrid X5 M60e xDrive, but exclusive photographs show a lesser X5 40 xDrive wearing many of the same sporty accessories. That distinction matters because the M Performance Parts catalogue is open to the regular X5 and the fully electric iX5, regardless of what sits under the bonnet.

The front end receives the most visible changes. Carbon-fibre trim pieces dress the area around the vertical kidney grille, while a three-piece front splitter gives the bumper a sharper edge. BMW says the splitter also serves an aerodynamic purpose and helps reduce weight. Further back, a high-gloss black roof spoiler and carbon-fibre blades flanking the rear diffuser add visual contrast without making the X5 look like it is trying too hard to be an X5 M.

The M Performance treatment also includes 23-inch Y-spoke 1110 M alloy wheels with a two-tone finish and gloss-milled surfaces. They represent a substantial upgrade for an already sizeable SUV, although buyers who prioritise ride comfort might want to think twice before opting for the largest available setup.

BMW also offers M Performance exterior mirror caps, even on a build such as this one, which is merely an X5 40 xDrive with the optional M Sport Package. The example photographed also wears M Performance decals on the rear doors. Since it is not the M60e, the X5 40 xDrive tucks its exhaust tips beneath the rear bumper. The electrified M Performance model, by contrast, flaunts a quad-exhaust setup that can optionally feature carbon-fibre finishers.

When the V8-powered M60 arrives next year, it will also get an M Performance silencer system, though stricter regulations mean Europe will not receive the setup. While BMW’s press shots naturally favour the more powerful M60e, the exclusive images show that the visual upgrades work just as well on the less potent X5 40 xDrive.

For buyers who want to match the visual drama with extra performance, a full-fat X5 M is expected to follow the M Performance versions in 2028, with both petrol and electric variants reportedly sharing the G95 codename. The launch of the M Performance Parts range gives customers more ways to personalise the new X5 from day one, whether they choose a plug-in hybrid, a conventional engine or the fully electric iX5.
