A 1954 MG TF roadster, first sold new in the Netherlands and later taken to California, is being offered for sale after a long period of storage and a series of mechanical updates. The car, finished in MG Red over red upholstery, is presented as a driver-ready example of the British sports car, with its history and recent work documented in detail.
The car has passed through three owners in total. Its original owner bought it new in Holland and used it for rally and hill-climb events. It was later relocated to California, where it had two further owners before the current seller acquired it in 2025. According to the notes provided, the MG was stored indoors from 1973 until 2021, when it was recommissioned after almost five decades out of regular use.
Under the bonnet is a 1,250cc XPAG inline-four paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The seller says the cylinder head is taken from an MG TC and that the valvetrain has been upgraded. The rear axle is an MGA-sourced unit, which is likely several decades old. Both SU carburettors were serviced in 2021, the thermostat was replaced in 2024, and the choke cable and engine mount were addressed in 2026.
The braking system was overhauled in 2021, and the master cylinder was replaced around 2023. Five tyres were fitted in 2021 and the wheels were serviced at the same time. The car rides on chrome wire wheels wearing 165/80 Nexen tyres, with a spare mounted on the rear. The paint, soft top and side curtains show the wear expected of a car of this age, and the odometer reads about 15,000 miles, to which the seller has added roughly 25 since taking ownership.
Documentation accompanies the sale. Service records date back to 2020, and the package includes a workshop manual and a parts catalogue. Spare parts and a tool kit are also included, and the California title is in the seller's name.
The paperwork is not entirely consistent, however. The chassis number does not match the VIN on the title, and the title records the engine number in the VIN field. It also identifies the body type as a coupe, although the car is a roadster. These discrepancies remain unresolved in the notes, and prospective buyers will need to clarify them before any transfer of ownership.
