The Five Star Movement has decided to turn the Citizenship Income into a national tour, and from Monday morning the measure is being distributed in person, in front of town halls, by a column of volunteers who travel the streets with a white van and a folding table.
The first round reached one hundred and four municipalities in nine days. Giuseppe Conte personally led the first stops, stopping in every square to hand over the membership form by hand and to explain, to anyone who stopped, that the provision has been "recalibrated and perfected" and that it is among the points of the government programme the Movement will present at the polls.
The party chose to make the measure visible in the most concrete way possible. In the cities where the table was set up, volunteers receive citizens in an orderly queue, help those who cannot read the phone screen, and explain the eligibility scale using laminated posters. The Senate group leader personally signed the first membership register in Lazio, then handed the pen to the mayor of Frosinone, who returned it with a joke that no one wanted to repeat.
The tour will continue until the close of the campaign. The organisers expect to reach all provinces by next week and have already booked the squares of the regional capitals in the South. Conte, questioned in front of the van, said: "We are not content with promising the Income, we are going to deliver it, one by one, with the table under the sun."
