Jack Osbourne says he and his wife, Aree Osbourne, are raising five children without the help of a nanny, a choice he described as more manageable than he expected once the family settled into a routine.
«We don't do the nanny thing,» Osbourne said during an Emmy nominees event in Los Angeles, according to People magazine. «I thought it was going to be way gnarlier than it is, but you find a rhythm.»
Aree is a stay-at-home mother. The couple share two daughters: Maple, 4, and Ozzy Matilda, 6 months. Osbourne is also the father of Pearl, 14, Andy, 11, and Minnie, 8, from his previous marriage to Lisa Stelly.
The family recently marked a milestone when Maple started preschool. Osbourne posted a photo of Maple posing with her baby sister and joked that Ozzy Matilda was her «emotional support squad.»
Osbourne, 40, has said his approach to parenting is more structured than the one he experienced growing up in one of rock music's most famous households. His parents were Ozzy Osbourne, the late Black Sabbath frontman, and Sharon Osbourne.
«I'm a little more structured with my kids than my parents were with me,» he told People. «I won't take them out of school just to go travel. We do a little bit, but I think structure is healthy.»
Jack and Aree welcomed their youngest daughter in March. They named her Ozzy Matilda in honor of Jack's father, who died in July. Jack was able to tell Ozzy about Aree's pregnancy before the rock legend's death.
In a December interview with The Sun, Jack described the pregnancy as a source of hope while the family was grieving. «It's awesome,» he said. «I think it's been partly a healthy distraction, partly healing — probably in that kind of 'full cycle' category, in a weird way. It's very much taken energy out of the grieving side of things and parked in a bit more hopefulness.»
His sister, Kelly Osbourne, has also spoken publicly about the family's grief. In a recent interview with Hello!, Kelly, 41, addressed cruel comments she faced about her appearance while mourning Ozzy.
«I didn't navigate it — I wasn't well,» Kelly said when asked how she handled the public scrutiny. «How can you navigate something so cruel when you're so sick?»
Kelly, who is mother to 3-year-old son Sidney, said she is focused on healing both mentally and physically. «You've got to fix the head before you can fix the body,» she said. «It's a slow process.» She added: «It's going to take me a minute. I'm not going to be fixed in a day. I'm not going to be fixed on one therapy session. This is a lifetime of work I've got to do and continue to do for the rest of my life.»
Jack has also faced public commentary about his appearance. The media personality took to Instagram to respond to articles body-shaming him for being «grossly underweight» and calling him «sick.»
«I cannot believe I'm having to actually make this f---ing video,» he said. «I have lost no weight since I got out of the jungle doing 'I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!' six months ago. I've been the same f---ng weight. The only difference is I shaved my beard and opted for a creepy mustache. That's the only f---ing difference.»
He later added that he has been «brutalized by the press about being overweight» his entire life and could not believe that even after getting «down to a healthy weight,» he has been «criticized even more.»
Amid the public scrutiny, Jack and Aree continue to focus on their family. Their decision to raise five children without a nanny reflects a preference for a hands-on, structured home life — one that Jack says has turned out to be more workable than he anticipated.
