Kelly Osbourne has addressed her extreme weight loss following the death of her father, heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, revealing in a new interview that grief left her unable to see what others noticed about her appearance. The television personality said she only realized how drastically her body had changed after seeing a photograph of herself at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
"All I saw was a broken person," Osbourne told The Mail on Sunday. "I looked like the fucking Crypt Keeper… I said, 'This is scary – I didn't know I looked like this.' My spine – you could see every single bone." The 2026 Grammys appearance came months after her father's death on July 22, 2025, at age 76, following years of declining health.
Osbourne explained that she had been dealing with "anticipatory grief" for a decade as her father's condition worsened. She said she began wearing wigs that covered the side of her face so people "couldn't see how skinny" her cheekbones were. The singer and presenter previously pushed back against online critics who commented on her appearance at her father's funeral and at red carpet events.
"To the people who keep thinking they're being funny and mean by writing comments like 'Are you ill,' or 'Get off Ozempic, you don't look right,' my dad just died, and I'm doing the best that I can," she said in an Instagram video in 2025. "The only thing I have to live for right now is my family." She also spoke out after attending the 2026 BRIT Awards, calling the online commentary about her weight "cruel" and saying she felt "dehumanised" by the attention.
In the same interview, Osbourne reflected on her earlier struggles with addiction, claiming she was introduced to cocaine by one of her father's friends. She made the comments in a documentary called If These Walls Could Rock, which explores the history of the Sunset Marquis hotel in Los Angeles.
"I did my first line of cocaine in this hotel," she said in the documentary. "Which was given to me by one of my dad's friends in a very, very, very big band." Osbourne did not name the musician but said she kept the incident secret from her parents because "they would fucking kill him" if they found out.
Earlier in 2025, Osbourne criticized what she called a "fat-phobic" world, saying people online gave her "more shit for being fat" than for being a drug addict. Her comments come during a period of significant personal change: she recently called off her engagement to former Slipknot turntablist Sid Wilson, a move her brother Jack said has put her in a "happier place."
The elder Osbourne, who fronted Black Sabbath before launching a successful solo career, died just weeks after the band's star-studded farewell show in Birmingham, England. Fans marked the first "Ozzy Day" in his hometown exactly one year after his passing, with a brass band performing Black Sabbath classics and the mechanical "Ozzy The Bull" statue at New Street station decorated with the singer's iconic glasses.
