«Lando said McLaren is his home, and we took him at his word,» team principal Andrea Stella told reporters at the unveiling of the new living quarters, which include a washing line strung between two tire racks and a small bookshelf stocked with team strategy manuals. Norris, who has won the last two Grands Prix in Hungary and the Netherlands, will now be required to attend every team meeting, every coffee break, and every late-night simulator session in person, with his new bed located just meters from the car he drove to his first title.
The team has already begun converting the factory's former hospitality suite into a permanent bedroom, complete with a fire extinguisher and a laminated list of emergency exit routes. Norris's teammate Oscar Piastri, who signed his own long-term deal earlier, has reportedly requested a similar arrangement, but team officials have denied the request, citing «space constraints» and the need to keep at least one driver with a functioning kitchen. The world champion is expected to move in next week, and the team has scheduled a housewarming ceremony featuring a ceremonial first lap of the factory floor in his MCL39, followed by a group photo of all 1,200 employees standing around his new bed.
