Fat Dog have released an intense new single titled ‘Call It What You Want’, offering another preview of their upcoming album ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’. The track leans on rave-style synths and post-punk influences, with frontman Joe Love describing it as a meditation on family struggles and inherited anxiety. “That’s me looking at people in my family and their problems and thinking, ‘Is it gonna be the same for me? Is it in my DNA?’” Love said in a statement accompanying the release.
The song arrives as the latest taster from the band’s sophomore record, the follow-up to their 2024 debut ‘WOOF’. Earlier singles from the album include ‘Go Fuck Urself’, ‘Shit Love’ and the title track. ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’ is scheduled for release on October 2 via Domino Records. A press release described the forthcoming album as “an exhilarating, swaggering, panoramic, inventive, re-inventive, re-re-inventive electro-punk-art-pop-rock’n’roll-space-country triumph that deserves all the adjectives.”
The music video for ‘Call It What You Want’ was filmed at the band’s Woofstock performance in Bermondsey last week. The visual captures the group’s live energy, which has become a defining part of their identity. Keyboardist Chris Hughes previously reflected on the band’s onstage chemistry in an interview, noting, “What we’ve got as a band is special. I hear things from my friends who are in other groups, and there just seems to be constant animosity elsewhere. We get these moments where everything lines up: sometimes, we all look at each other on stage, and quietly recognise that we’re playing a really good gig. It’s an amazing feeling.”
To celebrate the album announcement, Fat Dog have lined up a series of in-store and out-store performances across the UK. The run includes stops at Rough Trade locations in Bristol, London, Nottingham and Liverpool, as well as shows in Kingston, Sheffield, Edinburgh and Newcastle. Several of these intimate dates have already sold out, including the Bristol and London Rough Trade performances and the Nottingham evening show. Additional appearances are planned at venues such as Circuit in Kingston, Foundry in Sheffield, Cab Voltaire in Edinburgh and HMV Newcastle.
The band will also play a string of festival and headline dates across Europe before the album lands. Their September schedule includes appearances at PHE Festival in Tenerife, End of the Road Festival in the UK, Baroeg Open Air in Rotterdam, Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Our Fest in Ourense and Radio 1’s New Music Live at Tramshed in Cardiff. October brings shows in Madrid, Barcelona, Brighton, Paris, Nantes, Tourcoing, Cologne, Berlin, Copenhagen and other cities, alongside their UK in-store commitments.
Fat Dog have now confirmed their first-ever Australian tour, which kicks off in Brisbane on December 10. The run continues with a performance at Meredith Music Festival on December 11, followed by dates at 170 Russell in Melbourne, Metro Theatre in Sydney and The Rechabite in Perth. The Australian leg wraps up in mid-December before the band returns to the UK for a series of year-end headline shows, including dates at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, O2 Academy Brixton in London and Rock City in Nottingham.
Their debut album ‘WOOF’ received a five-star review from NME, which described the record as “unserious, unhinged and sensational.” The band’s growing live reputation and genre-blending sound have positioned them as one of the more distinctive acts in the current UK rock scene, and the new single suggests their upcoming album will continue that trajectory.
