Paramount moves new Paranormal Activity film to Halloween 2027

Paramount has shifted the next Paranormal Activity movie to the weeks before Halloween 2027, while its G.I. Joe reimagining, directed by Danny McBride, is set for wide release on October 20, 2028.

Paramount has moved the next installment of its Paranormal Activity franchise to the Halloween season of 2027, placing the found-footage horror title on the calendar ahead of the holiday that has long been the franchise's natural home. The change was disclosed in a release-date update from the studio, and trade outlets Deadline and Variety both reported the scheduling shift.

According to Deadline, the new Paranormal Activity film now lands in the weeks before Halloween 2027. The franchise, built around low-budget scares and cameras left running in ordinary homes, has historically benefited from October releases, and the studio's decision keeps the series tied to that seasonal window. The update covered the horror title alongside other changes to the studio's slate.

The same update also set a date for G.I. Joe, a reimagining of the Hasbro toy line and comics that has been in development as a major action release. The film is scheduled for wide release on October 20, 2028. Danny McBride is directing the picture, and Bradley Cooper stars as Duke, the character who anchors the team at the center of the story.

McBride is also a co-writer on the screenplay, working with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. Bringing the property to the screen means adapting a franchise that has spanned decades of toys, animated series, and comic books, and the studio is betting that a new take on the characters can draw audiences to theaters again. The October 2028 date places the action title in the same autumn corridor the studio is using for its horror and event films.

Taken together, the two dates show Paramount leaning on the fall calendar for tentpole and genre releases. Halloween remains one of the most dependable windows for horror, and the studio has moved its found-footage franchise to a fixed seasonal slot rather than leaving it to a looser schedule. The G.I. Joe reimagining, meanwhile, gives the studio a branded action property with a set release day more than two years out. Neither film has been detailed beyond its date and its creative team in the reporting so far, and the studio has not offered further specifics about the Paranormal Activity project in the notes available.
