Atletico Madrid and Manchester United to Play Champions League Match at Walking Pace for 96 Hours Straight

Both clubs agreed to a continuous 96-hour walk-through of the entire group stage, with fans required to remain in their seats until the final whistle of the final lap.

Atletico Madrid and Manchester United will contest their Champions League fixture at a combined walking pace of 0.4 kilometres per hour, with the match scheduled to run continuously for 96 hours until every player has personally walked the full length of the Metropolitano pitch 1,100 times.

The agreement, reached after both managers admitted their squads were «not exactly bullish», requires the teams to remain on the field for the entire duration. A fleet of municipal buses has been converted into mobile dormitories and parked behind the north stand, where players will sleep in fifteen-minute shifts while the ball continues to be passed at the same unhurried tempo.

UEFA has dispatched a team of retired referees to walk alongside the players and record each completed lap on a mechanical counter mounted on the halfway line. Fans who purchased tickets have been issued with camping equipment and a timetable that allocates them three hours per day to queue for the stadium's only working turnstile.

«We hoped for a lot more, we expected a lot more, and we are where we are», said one club official, gesturing at the 96-hour schedule pinned to the dressing-room wall. «The journey is the point. We will not lose sight of it until every last step has been taken.»

By the third day, local residents had begun lining the route with folding chairs, and the mayor announced that the city's entire tram network would be rerouted to follow the players' slow procession around the pitch.
