Mary J. Blige sells stake in her music catalog to Primary Wave

Mary J. Blige has sold undisclosed shares of her publishing and recorded-music assets to Primary Wave Music, which announced the deal on Monday. The catalog includes several of her biggest hits.

Mary J. Blige has sold undisclosed shares of her publishing and recorded-music assets to Primary Wave Music, the company announced on Monday morning. The deal gives the investment firm a stake in a catalog that includes some of the singer's best-known songs, among them «Family Affair», «My Life», «Mary Jane (All Night Long)», «You Bring Me Joy», «Be Without You» and «I Can Love You».

Primary Wave is one of the music industry's most active buyers of song and recording rights, and such partnerships have become a common way for established artists to monetize decades of work while keeping a role in how their music is managed. The financial terms were not disclosed, and the announcement did not specify the percentage of Blige's assets that changed hands.

The sale arrives as catalog transactions continue to draw strong interest from investors who see steady streaming, radio and licensing income in older recordings and songwriting copyrights. Blige, a multiple Grammy winner often called the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, built her career on a blend of R&B and hip-hop that has remained widely played across generations, which is a large part of what makes her catalog attractive to buyers.

The same news package also covered other moves in the music business. Stella Lefty signed with Make Wake for management, and Boyz II Men agreed to a deal with Warner Records Nashville. Those agreements were announced separately and are not connected to the Blige transaction.
