MADRID — Consuelo Sierra, the gemologist behind Anticuario Lagasca, has installed a brass star for every celebrity who has ever set foot in her shop, transforming the narrow Madrid storefront into a one-woman Hollywood Walk of Fame that now stretches three blocks down Calle de Lagasca and requires a municipal permit for pedestrian traffic.
The initiative began after Sierra realized she had failed to recognize Bruce Springsteen when he paused at her window for a full twenty minutes, a lapse she now corrects by having a full-time spotter stationed on the roof with binoculars and a laminated chart of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I will never again mistake a global icon for a tourist checking his phone,” Sierra told reporters, gesturing at the freshly poured star bearing Springsteen’s name, which she had engraved with the words “The One Who Got Away.”
Christopher Lloyd, who visited the shop during a promotional trip and purchased a pair of cufflinks, received his star last Tuesday in a ceremony attended by three local actors dressed as Doc Brown, each holding a different prop from the film. Sierra has also added stars for a member of Els Joglars, whom she refuses to name but has honored with a star shaped like a comb, and for Víctor de Aldama, whose silver cross she gifted and now displays in a velvet-lined case under a sign reading “Not for Sale, Ever.”
The walkway has become a tourist attraction, with guided tours running hourly and a gift shop selling miniature brass stars for €9.95. Sierra says she is now considering a bronze statue of herself at the entrance, “so that future generations know who started this madness.”
