Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were called to former Vice President Kamala Harris' Malibu residence Friday night after an uninvited woman entered the property twice, according to multiple reports. The woman was stopped by security personnel before she reached the home itself, and she was not arrested.
The unidentified woman first arrived at the roughly $8 million property after being dropped off by an Uber, according to the California Post. She attempted to contact security at the home and was told she needed to leave. She returned a second time, prompting Harris' security detail to call authorities after 10 p.m.
Lt. Jason Duron, a watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's station, told the Los Angeles Times that deputies are increasing their presence at the property. «We are stepping up patrols of the property to be safe,» Duron said.
Eduardo Negrón, a spokesman for Harris, said security personnel intercepted the individual before she could get near the residence. «Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff's property before the individual reached the home,» Negrón told The Times. «They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.»
Negrón said neither Harris nor Emhoff were home at the time of the incident. The couple purchased the Malibu property in January of last year.
The response to the former vice president's home highlights the layered security arrangements that protect high-profile former officials, as well as the gaps that can emerge when federal protection is scaled back. President Donald Trump ended Harris' Secret Service detail a year ago, after former President Joe Biden had extended protection for a year beyond the traditional six months granted to former vice presidents.
Harris, a native of California, served as district attorney of San Francisco, attorney general of California and as a U.S. senator representing the state before joining Biden's presidential ticket. She and Emhoff have maintained a residence in the state since leaving Washington.
Fox News Digital reached out to the sheriff's department and representatives for Harris for additional comment. The woman's identity and her reasons for approaching the property have not been released.
The incident comes amid broader attention to the safety of prominent political figures and their families. In 2022, a man broke into former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco home and attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer. He was later sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Authorities have not said whether the woman will face any charges. The investigation into the Friday night incident remains active, and patrols around the property are expected to continue.
