SonicMax has introduced the Slice 10, a cordless ultrasonic cutter engineered to solve the overheating problem that has frustrated makers using similar tools. Running at 40,000 vibrations per second, the device is designed to glide through foam, leather, plastic, and 3D-printed parts with clean, precise edges, while a redesigned transducer keeps the tool cool enough for continuous work.
The company says the new transducer achieves a quality factor, or Q value, of over 500, compared to roughly 200 in typical designs. A higher Q value means more energy is directed into cutting rather than being lost as heat, a change that extends usable work sessions without the frequent breaks that older models required. The Slice 10 also adjusts its output in real time, reading resistance from the material and modifying power and vibration frequency to maintain a smooth cut across different substances.
The cordless design is powered by a 5,000mAh 21700 lithium-ion battery that SonicMax rates for up to four hours of cutting per charge. The cell is user-replaceable, allowing operators to carry a spare and swap it in seconds, and the tool supports pass-through charging via USB-C, so it can be used while the battery tops up. A full charge takes roughly 70 minutes with 18W fast charging.
Thermal management relies on two mechanisms: the transducer generates less waste heat by design, and a built-in active cooling fan moves residual heat away from the blade area. A lift-to-activate sensor powers the tool on when picked up and off when set down, contributing to both battery conservation and heat control. Overheat protection triggers at an 80°C motherboard temperature, and the device shuts down automatically after five minutes of idle time.
The Slice 10 includes an OLED display showing live battery level, output power, and tool status, plus an LED light to illuminate the cut line for detailed work. Weighing 236g and measuring 260.5mm long, it is built for extended handling without fatigue. Each unit ships with 10 spare blades, a hex wrench, a blade retaining block, four fastening screws, a dual USB-C cable, and a user manual.
SonicMax reports that the tool improves post-processing tasks such as support removal on detailed 3D prints, leather cutting without compression or fraying, and clean separation of foam and plastic sheets. The project has raised over $104,000 in crowdfunding, with the Slice 10 priced at $119, down from a listed $215, and limited units remaining at the discount rate.
