Talking Heads will reunite at the end of September to launch a dedicated SiriusXM channel, the band's latest public gathering after more than two decades apart. The channel, Talking Heads Radio, will feature five decades of music from David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison and Tina Weymouth, along with a special reflective conversation between the members.
The conversation will be recorded live in front of an audience in New York on September 28 and will air at noon on launch day. Este Haim, of the pop-rock trio Haim, will host the Q&A. The channel runs from October 1 to October 22 on in-car satellite radios and until October 31 on the SiriusXM app.
The event marks another reunion for the group, whose first public appearance together in over 20 years came in 2023. They reunited for a Q&A at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11 that year to celebrate the anniversary of their iconic concert film «Stop Making Sense».
At that Toronto event, when asked about the possibility of performing together again, Weymouth said the group was «just savouring the moment.» Frantz had previously addressed the prospect of a reunion in a 2022 interview, saying he had tried a couple of times, with the last attempt about 20 years ago. He recalled that Byrne told him he never wanted to be asked that question again and would not address the matter. «It's a shame and it is what it is,» Frantz said.
Byrne also seemed unmoved on the subject last year, telling The Times that trying to recreate the feeling people had when they first heard the music in their early 20s would be «a fool's errand.» He added that he was enjoying what he was doing at the time.
The new channel and live conversation offer fans a rare chance to hear the four members together again, even as a full performance reunion remains off the table. Talking Heads Radio will draw on the band's back catalogue across five decades, from their earliest recordings to their later work, and the launch-day Q&A promises a reflective look at their history.
The group emerged from New York's downtown scene in the 1970s and became one of the most influential acts of the era, known for hits like «Once in a Lifetime» and «Burning Down the House.» Their 1984 concert film «Stop Making Sense,» directed by Jonathan Demme, is widely regarded as one of the greatest concert films ever made and has kept the band's legacy alive for new generations.
The SiriusXM channel adds to a growing list of artist-branded stations on the platform, giving subscribers curated access to a single act's catalogue and commentary. For Talking Heads, the launch event represents a continuation of the band's slow, selective return to public view, one that has so far stopped short of a full concert reunion.
