Dan Levy has converted a Los Angeles gym into a permanent live television studio, where every man who enters must first denounce Shane Gillis's recent SNL monologue on camera before being allowed to touch a single weight. The broadcast has run without interruption for eleven days.
Under the new rules, men are required to stand on a designated platform and state, «I denounce the monologue,» into a microphone while the entire gym watches on wall-mounted screens. Those who hesitate are escorted to a separate room to watch the monologue on a loop until they are ready to comply. The gym's owner says membership has tripled, mostly from men who arrive just to watch.
Levy has expanded the project to forty other gyms across the country, each equipped with identical platforms and live feeds. He now spends his days traveling between them, checking that the denunciations are delivered with sufficient conviction. «Complacency created this environment,» he said, «so now every man gets a turn at the microphone.»
At the original gym, a queue of men in workout clothes stretches around the block by 6 a.m. each day. Some have begun bringing their fathers and sons. The broadcast continues.
