Aston Martin is reportedly preparing to unveil a Spider version of its Valhalla supercar as early as November, adding an even more exclusive variant to a model already capped at 999 units worldwide. The open-top Valhalla is expected to use a removable targa top rather than a folding hardtop or soft top, according to reports, and will likely be built in smaller numbers than the coupe.
The Valhalla Spider is expected to be largely identical to the hardtop mechanically, retaining the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 working alongside three electric motors — two mounted at the front and one at the rear. Combined output should mirror the coupe's 1,064 hp and 810 lb-ft (1,100 Nm) of torque, routed through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and all four wheels.
Because the Valhalla is built around a lightweight carbon fibre monocoque, the Spider should be able to retain similar levels of strength and rigidity to the coupe, though additional strengthening may be required. The choice of a targa top is understood to reflect packaging constraints: the car does not have room to store a folding roof, and a removable panel adds less complexity and weight than a powered mechanism.
The coupe tips the scales at 3,649 lbs (1,655 kg). The Spider will likely be slightly heavier, but the carbon fibre construction means it is unlikely to exceed 3,747 lbs (1,700 kg). No modifications are expected to the powertrain.
The Valhalla already occupies a rarefied position in the supercar market, with performance that places it between the Lamborghini Revuelto and far more expensive hypercars including the Ferrari F80 and McLaren W1. A Spider variant would push that exclusivity further, and prospective buyers would be wise to prepare their finances and contact their nearest Aston Martin dealership.
