Geordie Greep Apologizes After Accuser and Ex-Bandmate Detail Alleged Assault

The former Black Midi frontman issued a new statement acknowledging he kissed a woman while she was asleep, after she and his former keyboardist spoke publicly about the October 8 incident in Vancouver.

Geordie Greep has issued a new apology after the woman who accused him of sexual assault and his former keyboardist spoke publicly about the incident for the first time. The former Black Midi frontman said he was unaware the woman was asleep when he kissed her and that he «apologised and stepped away» when she told him to stop.

«I want to unreservedly apologise to her for what I did and for the distress and hurt I caused that night,» Greep wrote in a statement shared online. «It was a huge mistake. I feel awful about it and I am very sorry. I got it all wrong that night and I accept that.» He added that he takes «full accountability» and is not attempting to minimise what happened.

The allegations first surfaced publicly on October 8, when a person handed out flyers outside Greep's concert at The Pearl in Vancouver. The flyers accused the singer of sexual misconduct and referenced the morning of October 8. Greep addressed the accusations from the stage that night, telling the audience that while he had been part of a «misunderstanding» at a house party the previous evening, the accusation of rape was untrue. He offered refunds to fans who wished to leave and later quietly cancelled shows in Boulder, Boise, Denver, and Salt Lake City.

The woman, who spoke to Paste under the pseudonym «Laura», said she and two other women met Greep at a house party the night before the gig. She said she made clear to him that she was in a relationship. She described walking with Greep to her friend's apartment, during which he made comments about homeless people that made her uncomfortable and displayed «weird behaviour, but nothing alarming or dangerous».

Later at the apartment, Laura said she fell asleep on her friend's sofa around 5am and woke to Greep kissing her. «I don't know for how long because I was passed out, but I think I woke up fairly quickly. His lips were on my lips, trying to make out with me, and then I pushed him off,» she said. She stated that the flyers were distributed without her consent and that she is accusing Greep of «assault», not «rape». «Those flyers were shared without my consent or knowledge. I am very disappointed in the person who decided my story was theirs to twist and tell the world,» she said. «If I'd had a couple more drinks and didn't wake up when I did, I don't know what would have happened. But the fact of the matter is I was not raped.» She added that she shared her story not to «take Geordie down» but in hopes it might «help prevent future victims».

Cameron Campbell, Greep's keyboardist, did not appear on stage with him on October 8 and later confirmed to a fan that he had quit the band. In a separate statement to Paste, Campbell said he was not in the room when the alleged incident occurred but heard Laura yelling at Greep to «get off» her and «immediately» ran in to check on her. «He tried to start downplaying it right there, saying that he only tried to give her a kiss on the cheek—which, again, if she's asleep, that doesn't really make it okay either way,» Campbell said. «After that, I knew that I was gonna quit.»

Campbell said he wanted to speak out to clear up «incorrect accusations» and stop «attempts to minimise what happened», while being careful not to claim he witnessed something he did not or to speak on behalf of the victim. «Her experience is hers to share,» he said. «But I also don't want my silence about my departure to be mistaken as agreeing with the mischaracterization of this incident.»

Greep launched his solo career after Black Midi's «indefinite» split in 2024, releasing his debut album «The New Sound» later that year. The allegations and his response have prompted widespread discussion online in the days since the Vancouver show.
