GWAR to Appear in Mutant Football League 2 Expansion, First Game Collaboration in Over 30 Years

The shock rock band GWAR will be playable in the Antarctica Scumbags expansion for Mutant Football League 2, marking their first video game collaboration since 1994's Beavis & Butt-Head: The Game. The expansion launches in October 2026 and includes a custom stadium filled with GWAR lore.

GWAR are returning to video games for the first time in more than three decades. The shock rock band will appear as a playable team in the Antarctica Scumbags expansion for Mutant Football League 2, the developers confirmed. The expansion is scheduled to launch in October 2026.

The band's last major gaming collaboration came in 1994 with Beavis & Butt-Head: The Game, where the animated duo tried to reach a GWAR concert. Since then, GWAR's music has appeared in titles like Guitar Hero 5 and Backyard Wrestling 2, but the new expansion marks their first full in-game appearance in over 30 years.

In Mutant Football League 2, described as a hard-hitting arcade-style football game that blends intense gameplay, wisecracking mutants, weapons, deep strategy and outrageous humor, GWAR's team will feature seven playable characters: Blöthar The Berserker, BälSäc The Jaws 'O Death, iZMak Da Gusha, Grodius Maximus, Beefcake The Mighty, Sawborg Destructo and Bonesnapper. According to a press release, they are the most physically destructive teams in the game, designed around a philosophy of brutality and carnage that turns every match into a white-knuckle battle for survival. «If you're playing against GWAR, the score is the last thing on your mind,» the release states.

Blöthar The Berserker offered his own take on the crossover: «Today, the Antarctican Scumdogs of GWAR take to the frozen tundra of the Mutant Football League, where killing isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing! Let the games begin.» The Antarctica Scumbags expansion will also include a new stadium packed with GWAR lore and Easter eggs, giving fans a dedicated arena that reflects the band's theatrical and grotesque aesthetic.

The announcement comes as GWAR prepare to re-release their Devin Townsend-produced album Beyond Hell later this month, ahead of a US tour in October. Townsend, who has been a fan since childhood, praised the band in a statement: «I loved the freedom, the metal, the spectacle, and the passion that went into it all. GWAR were, and are, an amazing combination of artistic freedom, absurdity, and hard work bundled up with metal and performance. Loved them then, love them now.»

Earlier this year, GWAR went viral for their brutal cover of Chappell Roan's hit «Pink Pony Club,» a performance that introduced the veteran shock rockers to a new generation of listeners online. The Mutant Football League 2 expansion continues that momentum, placing the band in a setting that matches their over-the-top stage presence and love of gore-soaked spectacle.

Mutant Football League 2 is known for its exaggerated, violent take on football, where mutants, weapons and dark humor replace the rules of the traditional sport. Adding GWAR as a playable faction fits the game's tone, and the dedicated stadium suggests the developers are treating the collaboration as more than a simple character skin. For a band that built its reputation on elaborate costumes, fake blood and sci-fi mythology, the virtual gridiron offers a natural extension of their live show.

The expansion is set for release in October 2026. Further details about the stadium, gameplay mechanics and any additional content are expected to be revealed closer to launch.
