A new wearable radio aims to close the gap between short-range walkie-talkies, text-only satellite messengers, and smartphones that falter in cold weather. Poclink has introduced the Motion Ultra, a hybrid device that runs on 4G LTE where cellular coverage exists and switches to analog radio when it does not, giving outdoor users voice communication across both connected and off-grid environments.
The Motion Ultra is built around two oversized push-to-talk buttons, each tied to a separate mode. A front-facing button connects over LTE for unlimited range wherever cellular service is available, while a side button activates the analog radio for off-grid reach. Both buttons are designed for blind-press operation, so users can trigger either mode by feel alone while wearing gloves or moving at speed. A multi-function rotary dial handles volume, channel switching, and group changes without requiring a touchscreen.
On the analog side, Poclink says the radio can reach up to 20 miles in favorable open conditions, though range varies with terrain and surroundings. The device supports three regional analog protocols: GMRS in the United States, PMR446 in Europe, and UHF CB in Australia. Over LTE, range is unlimited wherever coverage exists. A lifetime global SIM covering more than 60 countries ships in the box with no monthly or annual fees, and an optional premium plan extends coverage to more than 160 countries.
Group communication scales to 1,000 members in push-to-talk mode, while a five-way full-duplex mode allows something closer to a conference call. On-device AI handles wind noise reduction so voices remain intelligible through helmets, and voice commands let users adjust volume or call teammates hands-free. The 1.47-inch color display shows team names, channels, and connection status at a glance.
Safety features include live GPS location sharing, one-touch SOS, and geofencing. The SOS button sends exact coordinates to the group instantly without a satellite subscription or menu navigation. Geofencing lets users define a safety perimeter around a resort, campsite, or trailhead and triggers alerts if someone drifts outside it. Poclink cites a report from an owner of its earlier POC-1 Ultra device whose daughter's phone died after a car accident in a remote, low-coverage area, yet the radio maintained a connection at 75 miles.
The hardware is rated IP67 for waterproofing and cold-rated to -20°C, weighs about 100 grams, and uses a universal action mount compatible with helmets, goggles, handlebars, backpacks, and third-party accessories. A 2,000mAh battery with USB-C fast charging is intended for all-day outdoor use, and Bluetooth doubles as a music and podcast source during solo stretches. Every conversation runs through AES-256 encryption backed by AWS cloud infrastructure.
The Motion Ultra is available in Alpine White, Ridge Black, and Adventure Orange. It is priced at $399 for a single unit, with a two-unit bundle listed at $199 each, or $598 total, a 33 percent discount. Poclink positions the device for riders, skiers, hikers, and anyone who needs communication beyond what a phone alone can provide.
